New Dutch registrations

vds_automotive_kentekencardThere are two important news facts about the Dutch registration documents. First of all, the registration papers will no longer be printed on 'paper'. They will be replaced by a plastic card, the size of a credit card, conveniently called a registration card. Furthermore, a new range of registration numbers will soon be used.

Credit card

The Dutch vehicle registration documents will be replaced by a 'credit card' document, just like in Poland. This will happen in 2013. This transition is similar to the change from the paper drivers license to a credit card model a few years ago.
Part 1A (with the vehicle information) and 1B (with the registration information) will be replaced by one card with an electronic chip. Part 2, also known as the registration certificate, will be replaced by a registration code.
Besides being more convenient, this new registration card should also be harder to counterfeit.

New registration numbers

After intriducing the range of registration numbers (01-GBB-1) in May of 2008, the Dutch RDW has recently announced an update. Because the current range will run out at some point in 2012, the new 1-KBB-11 range will take its place. It is expected that this new range will not last very long, so the all new GB-001-B range will probably be used somewhere in 2014.

Import registration

Your Dutch import vehicle will always receive the latest registration combination, as long as it is a new registration and not a re-imported vehicle. As soon as we have got new information about this transition, we will notify you on our website.
